Power Of The Resurrection

John 11: 25 – 26 “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” – NLT

Lent is ending and Easter is upon us. Why is Easter so important? Easter Sunday is the celebration and remembrance of God’s great love for us. Our Creator sent a part of Himself, Jesus, to become a man. This perfect human form of God would lay down His life to begin a new covenant (promise) with human beings. His blood shed in sacrifice would be the once forever atonement for our sin. Rather than having to sacrifice again and again for our sin, Jesus made this a once forever sacrifice when He rose from the dead and defeated sin and death.

In this passage Jesus is explaining to Martha that there is more than just waiting till the day that we all rise together and get to heaven. Jesus’ resurrection and life are here, right now. When Jesus appeared, alive, to Mary, He told her to go and tell the others that He is not dead and is with them. This was powerful enough on its own. Everything that Jesus had said was true. But as Paul Harvey might say, what is “the rest of the story”?

Jesus would have to get back to Heaven soon and be with His Father again. As God’s great love for us continues to show, He sent the Holy Spirit to empower us and be our guide throughout the rest of our lives. To see this at work we need only read Acts 4: 32-35. “All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.”

This Easter I pray that you understand the power that is at your fingertips. I pray that you feel the Holy Spirit with you, guiding you and directing you. Jesus told His followers that they would do greater things than He did. This is possible for us, if we can believe with all our heart, and allow the Holy Spirit to reside within us. May we know and use the power of the resurrection this Easter.
